Children on the Edge is a project that seeks to investigate the emotions of kids living on two small islands with active volcanoes among the Aeolian Archipelago, the island of Stromboli and the island of Vulcano.

CHILDREN ON THE EDGE

Dreams and fears of kids living on active volcanoes.

By exploiting different techniques and mixing thermal portraits, drawings done by children on the Aeolian islands and historical documentation of previous eruptions, the photo essay finds a hybrid language to explore, from various perspectives, the unique relationship between the volcano generation and the nature that surrounds them. While documenting the emotional intertwining between volcanos and the kids that inhabit them, their mix of emotions such as fear, excitement, fascination and adrenaline, the project also wishes to raise questions around the connection between human and unregulated phenomena; indeed "Children on the Edge" invites us to unleash our desire to monitor, document, and explain nature, to rediscover, through wonder and amazement, a more authentic and spontaneous way of being a part of it, like children do.
