Rooted in observing my mother and sister, I explore the push and pull of expectation, disappointment, and care. How can emancipation take shape when desire is one-sided? This series searches for the fragile space between independence and connection.

bonds arose from observing the relationship between my sister and mother, as well as questioning my own conclusions about the difficult relationship between my mother and me.

On the one hand, she disappointed me in comparison to the mothers of my German friends. On the other hand, fulfilling or disappointing my mother's expectations of me is still a driving force behind my actions, even though I am more conscious of my actions today.

I keep coming back to the question of how emancipation can succeed if the desire is one-sided. Does the attempt at reconstruction ultimately fail because of this desire, or should it rather be a search for a space between emancipation and mutual expectations in which we can meet?
