Serenity depicts a young black man finding peace where the sky meets the sea. A dreamscape of tranquility and hope; where the waves are still and so is his spirit. These images convey the calm of the lake and nature in tune with the calm of the subjects demeanor. I wanted to convey something that is not typically depicted in black art and media; black peace. Black pain is often exploited for the sake of views, art, complexity. I wanted this project to show black serenity; the beauty of finding tranquility and calm in the vastness of the water and the sun bathing on his skin.
