'Beyond Our Silence' is a visual journey that addresses the need for sexual health education, breaking the silence of shame, and empowering Arab women to reclaim their stories and voices.
'Beyond Our Silence' explores the deeply ingrained sexual shame that women face as they navigate womanhood and self-discovery within Arab societies. This body of work highlights how the layers of shame surrounding womanhood give rise to the very real consequences of ignorance, stigma, and misinformation.
The series reveals the paradox of sexual awareness—how something long suppressed is suddenly expected to be embraced upon marriage. The lack of open conversation, education, and accurate information about women’s bodies results in severe physical conditions like vaginismus and chronic pelvic pain, as well as psychological impacts such as anxiety, depression, and sexual dysfunction.
Through photography, this project emphasizes the importance of sexual health awareness as a means to dismantle harmful narratives. By fostering open dialogue and breaking myths, this exhibition seeks to nurture the most important relationship: the one with our bodies.
