Back to the City, set against the dynamic backdrop of Beijing World Park, delves into the realm of global cultural representation. This thematic park showcases iconic landmarks from five continents, allowing visitors to experience a virtual world tour. Established in 1993, the park provided a glimpse of global destinations for Chinese citizens, especially when outbound travel was restricted.
The photo parts features documentary photos at World Park. The park's buildings primarily serve as photo backgrounds for tourists, offering a fictitious "global journey" proof. Photography faces authenticity challenges due to falseness in static landscapes and recent AI advancements.
The sculpture installation includes towering replicas of the Eiffel Tower and Empire State Building, adorned with AI-generated images printed on tracing paper, creating a fragile yet striking visual effect. This represents a time-traversing Tower of Babel with “fiction archives”.
