ARMOR takes a closer look at the shell that surrounds any body. Inspired by the surface, the different structure and multi-layered meaning of it, the series is an homage to the physical shell, which can be fragile, strong, different and adaptable.

"ARMOR" explores the protective shell that surrounds every body. Inspired by surfaces, structures, and the multi-layered meanings they hold, the series is an homage to this physical shield, which can be fragile, yet strong; different, yet adaptable; and changeable, yet resilient. Each image in the series invites viewers to ponder the layers of protection we constantly construct around ourselves. The displayed creative exploration not only captures the tangible aspect of the armor but also discovers the different stories it holds, revealing the beauty and complexity of our protective layers.

I would like to take this idea further and examine it from the perspective of different ideals of beauty. I am interested in the reasons why people voluntarily limit their lives, focus only on this or take great risks, to conform to a certain appearance. I am also interested in the question of who or what decides on beauty and ugliness and to what extent the extreme the extreme pursuit of a certain appearance is self-determined or when it becomes compulsive. Body and appearance become a tool to realize dreams, to express a view or to create an illusion.

As a complement to the photo series, I conducted and filmed interviews with the protagonists to highlight their stories and perspectives on the topic, weaving a common thread through their otherwise diverse narratives. I started shooting with a large format camera, which allows me to capture the portraits of my protagonists with exceptional detail and precision, creating an intentional and immersive atmosphere during the process. The grant would provide the necessary funds for equipment and materials to execute this analog technique at the highest quality, enabling me to explore the nuances of beauty and individuality in a way that digital methods cannot replicate.
