Anata to Isshō

Two places thousands of kilometers apart, yet I am only one person. In Kyoto, I fell asleep thinking of the sun sinking into the sea. In Cagliari, I fall asleep thinking of rivers flowing between temples. The world is small in its infinity, after all.

This project is made up of sixteen shots in total. Eight are photographs of Sardinia, eight are shots of Japan. I was born and raised in Italy, and I've always deeply loved to be a girl from the island. It has always been the only place I longed to return to, and where I could finally rest, protected by my family and by the power of the Earth. In April 2025, I moved to Kyoto, Japan, for six months. A choice that filled me with an overwhelming fear, which in turn sparked a profound personal rebirth.
Little by little, I managed to build a family and a life which allowed a completely new version of myself to find its place in this world, and to silently observe things I would never have thought possible even just a few months earlier, if I hadn’t found the courage to leave.
Now, I feel dislocated. This is a new feeling for me, one that I still cannot quite give a single shape to. It permeates time in a strange way and freezes it. It can appear anywhere, in a color, in a scent, and above all in a photograph. This is the key to the works I am presenting to you, those in which, when I look at them, I feel this powerful sense of unease and serenity at the same time. Hoping that someone might see something beyond me in them, I wonder which of the two places seems more like my home, to those who do not know me.
