An Unknown River

A homage to all the women that have been, all the women that are and all the women that have yet to be, you amaze me.

An Unknown River is an ongoing body of work, it is a portrait of the Colorado River and a homage to all the women that have formed their lives around it. Collaborating with women from all different backgrounds; Indigenous, boat builders, geologists, therapists, park rangers, thru hikers, writers and artists. The work is a collection of interconnected narratives that take place on the river & its surrounding canyons.

In this work, I explore sensory experiences of the land, challenging current practices around landscape photography, using traditional photography as well as video and sound.

Reflecting on my own practice as a female photographer working in the outdoors, and the immersive methods I use to make my work. An Unknown River examines the role of gender in the landscape past and present, exploring themes of eco feminism and the representation of women, using the Colorado River as its stage.

The work is a testament to all the pioneering women drawn to a life in the great outdoors.
