In my photo project "ALIENS", I research and photograph alien and invasive animal and plant species. My images focus primarily on human behaviour in the context of these new species.
ALIENS
They were brought to another continent as farm animals or abandoned because people wanted to get rid of them as pets. They arrived in gardens as admired ornamental plants or were sown as new crops in the fields. They travelled to other continents in the ballast tanks of ships, in the containers of world trade or in the holds of cargo planes. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, humans have taken plants and animals with them on their journeys from one ecosystem to another.
Due to environmental degradation and climate change, newly introduced species sometimes manage to establish themselves. A few of these plants and animals have a negative impact on ecosystems and are labelled as invasive by many biologists and conservationists.
In my photo project "ALIENS", I deal with these alien and invasive plants and animals. My images focus primarily on human behaviour in the context of these new species. Over the past two years, I have accompanied and photographed scientists, hunters, fishermen, farmers, foresters, gardeners, government employees and conservationists in their work at various locations in Germany and Europe.
