Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located in an isthmus at the very south of the Iberian Peninsula.
It has an area of approximately seven square kilometers and shares its northern border with Spain.
The svereignty of Gibraltar (Bristish since 1713) is a major point of contention in Anglo-Spanish relations as Spain asserts a claim to the territory. Gibraltarians are bristish and want to remain as such after Brexit.
Due to Gibralrars low taxation, over 30 betting and gambling companies operate the European market from the Rock, also sheds a large number of Offshore companies. These activities, together with tobacco dealing, tourism, naval operations and other financial activities are the main source of income at Gibraltar. Which has the second lowest unemployment rate in the world, contrasting to nearby Spanish cities such as La Linea that has some of the highest rates of unemployment in Europe.
A land rich in history, its first reference appears on greek mythology as one of the “Columns of Hercules” and acts as a geographical reference of the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea at the strair that has its name: Gibraltar Strait.
A relevant military base on World War II, also is home to the only population of wild monkeys in Europe.
