This project explores the theme of climate change starting from the small mountain realities that are experiencing major disruptions due to the absence of snow, in order to lead the observer to reflect on this global phenomenon, which affects us all.

This project, which was created to become a photo book, talks about the places where I was born and grew up with a deliberately melancholic vein. It evokes memories that are slowly fading away, making way for today's state of affairs: a landscape changed due to climate change, which inevitably leads me to wonder what will become of the places of my childhood? The shots were taken between Valchiavenna and Vallespluga, more precisely Campodolcino/Madesimo/Montespluga in the 2022/2023 winter season.

There are places whose wealth and survival are closely linked to what nature gives back. With the same indispensability as a pulmonary function, these places fill and empty with people who, cyclically, allow them to live and develop in both economic and social terms. So what happens if this cyclical nature is interrupted, and what will happen to mountain villages that depend economically on winter tourism if snowfall is increasingly absent and gradually becoming a memory? According to recent research published in Nature Climate Change, the duration of snow cover in the Alps is now 36 days shorter than the long-term average, a decline that is described as 'unprecedented' in the last 600 years. How significant is this figure, and why should it give us pause for thought? This project explores the issue of climate change starting from the small mountain areas that are experiencing major disruptions due to the absence of snow, in order to lead the observer to reflect on this global phenomenon. The absence of snow cover has wider repercussions, leading one to wonder how extensive the problem actually is, since the absence of snow means the absence of the most precious resource: water.
