As If/Ever is a selection of photographs shaped around transience, finitude and contingency, bringing together fleeting encounters, anonymous human moments, temporary surface relations and unexpected details of everyday life.
As If/Ever is a selection of photographs shaped around transience, finitude and contingency. It brings together fleeting encounters in everyday life, anonymous human moments, temporary surface relations produced by the urban fabric, and unexpected details. The photographs are based on the idea that meaning emerges not from a complete narrative, but from the encounter itself. Instead of directing the viewer towards an explanatory context, the work offers an open-ended field of interpretation through situations that appear and disappear. The book focuses on Serap Gecü’s encounters between 2024 and 2025.
Serap Gecü’s photographic practice may appear as a form of visual documentation, yet this documentation makes no claim to bearing witness. Documentary certainty gives way to spaces opened up by intuition. A fashion-editorial aesthetic that can be felt in some of the frames reveals a sense of composition within contingency; the possibility of an unnoticed scene emerges.
Self-published in 2026, As If/Ever was presented at border_less Art Book Fair in Istanbul and featured by Paris Image Unlimited.
