Mandana Mahdavi is one of four recipients of the 2024/2025 Rita K. Hillman Foundation Fellowship. The $10,000 grant supports her project Flood of Dark, exploring endometriosis and the gendered politics of pain.
Mandana Mahdavi was one of four recipients awarded the 2024/2025 Rita K. Hillman Foundation Fellowship. The Fellowship provides each recipient with a $10,000 grant to support an impactful photographic project addressing critical issues in health care, along with mentorship from distinguished International Center of Photography (ICP) faculty.
Mandana’s project, Flood of Dark, explores the psychological and embodied landscape of endometriosis and the repercussions of gendered politics of pain. Her work is guided by the mentorship of Marvin Heiferman.
Created in 2012, the Rita K. Hillman Foundation Fellowship has supported groundbreaking photographic projects addressing pressing healthcare challenges and continues to leave a lasting impact on the field of visual storytelling. During its years of operation, the Fellowship nurtured a remarkable community of visual authors whose work illuminated critical issues in health and society, helping audiences better understand the world we live in.
