Marilene Ribeiro is a Brazilian visual artist whose practice is focused on interdisciplinary endeavours, bringing together photography, video, intervention and collaboration. Ribeiro's works are engaged in the political agency of photography and in the role of image-based media in society.
Projects tackle the subjects of identity and contemporary issues, namely the environmental and the Human Rights agendas.
Recipient of the PHotoEspaña Discoveries Award (Spain), the Royal Photographic Society Award (UK), the International Arts Residency Prize of the Museum of Image and Sound – MIS (Brazil), and shortlisted for the Arles Luma Rencontres Dummy Book Award (France), the Marilyn Stafford FotoReportage Award (UK), the Biennial of Fine Art & Documentary Photography Grant, and the EI Photography and Visual Arts Festival Photobook Award (Portugal).
