Jaakko Kahilaniemi

Jaakko Kahilaniemi (b. 1989, Toijala) is a visual artist and photographer living and working in Helsinki, Finland.

Jaakko Kahilaniemi (b. 1989, Toijala) is a visual artist and photographer living and working in Helsinki, Finland. Kahilaniemi holds an BA in photography from Turku Arts Academy, Finland and he is currently finishing his MA in photography at Aalto University of Arts and Design, Helsinki Finland (graduating spring 2018). Kahilaniemi received Majaoja Foundation’s grand prize, MajaojaPrize/Backlight’17 in Backlight Photo Festival (9/2017). His recent work 100 Hectares of Understanding is his attempt to understand the forest he inherited and owns.

His work has been exhibited in a solo exhibition 100 Hectares of Understanding, The Finnish Museum of Photography, Helsinki (FI, 6/2016) and in various groupshows 2017 like Marked Sites with Jyrki Parantainen and Anna Reivilä in Gallery Taik Persons, Berlin, in Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center, Budabest, in FotoFLUSS, Wolkersdorf, in Photon, Ljubljana, in Fotografisk Center, Copenhagen, in Organ Vida, Zagreb, in Kunst Haus Wien, Vienna, in Norderlicht Photofestival in Groningen, in Latvian Museum of Photography, in Backlight Photo Festival at Tampere Art Museum and in Northern Photography Center in Oulu. His work has been shown also at international art fairs like Vienna Contemporary ’16 and 17, Paris Photo ’16 and ’17, Photo London ’17, Artissima ‘17 and in Vienna Contemporary ’16 and ’17 by Gallery Taik Persons.

In 2018 his works will be seen in Festival de Hyéres, in Grand Prix Fotofestiwal in Lödz and in Guernsey Photo Festival. In 2017 his work has been published in Der Grief #10, in Das Magazin, in EIKON magazine #99 and in various catalogues.
