“I pose, I know I am posing, I want you to know that I am posing, but (to square the circle) this additional message must in no way alter the precious essence of my individuality.” Roland Barthes
A life on the go, across the seas, working as a waiter on cruise ships, is documented by hundreds of faded snapshots from the last century. Mr.C is portrayed in all of them; the redundancy, the serial repetitions of the gestures and the poses amuses us. We are fascinated by the character of a likeable narcissistic adventurer, engaged in the obsessive representation of himself in every place he crosses.
Until, however, we do not discover the words behind the pictures and so the character, the mask becomes a man.
