The theme for 2025 is “Garden,” Japan's largest urban art festival, which aims to promote cultural tourism through photography by utilizing Tokyo's urban space to display the works of international artists.
Overview
French gardener and philosopher Gilles Clément, in his book The Moving Garden, states, “Combine as much as possible and resist as little as possible,” advocating for the possibility of a “living garden” that embraces rather than excludes invasive species and accidental changes, fostering coexistence. What lies at its core is not perfect management or static order, but the dynamic force of life that continues to evolve and intertwine.
This year, T3 brings such “gardens” into urban spaces through photographic expression.
Photographic works and exhibitions are inserted into the “city,” the most symbolic artificial order designed by humans, like foreign objects. They blend with the space like invasive species, expand, and shape new “gardens.” If the “gardens” scattered across Ginza, Kyobashi, Yaesu, and Nihonbashi can create accidental encounters and interactions with visitors, perhaps we can discover new possibilities for the city. Tokyo, as a city, will continue to reveal its hidden landscapes through photography.
