Polycopies 2024

Polycopies is an annual photobook festival that promotes independent publishing - books, multiples, paper objects and experimental practices.

Overview

Coinciding with Paris-Photo, Polycopies transforms the Concorde-Atlantique boat into a large ephemeral gathering fully dedicated to photography books. In 2024, the event will bring over a hundred international publishers and booksellers from more than twenty countries, who will be hosting events, round tables, signings, professional meetings, and portfolio reviews for five days.

The book fair has become a meeting place for many amateurs, collectors, authors and publishers who like to share and confront their ideas on photography practices, understand the stakes of publishing, exchange their discoveries and favourite books, or submit dummies and see new projects being initiated. Since 2022, Polycopies seeks to promote and support photographers by providing one or more grants each year, intended to assist photographers in producing a book or contributing financially to a photography project that will result in a publication.

Among the notable contributors present during this year's edition of the event are several distinguished artists and publishers, each showcasing their latest works, connecting directly with visitors in meaningful dialogue. These contributors, including Skinnerboox and Cesura Publish (Italy), Sun Archive (Poland), Art Map (Czech Republic), Dalpine (Spain), and Objektiv Press (Norway), share their expertise on photography and publishing, offering fresh perspectives on the photobook as a medium and exploring the intersection of visual storytelling, culture, and theory. International names such as Magnum Photos, Max Pinckers (Belgium), and Ruben Lundgren (China), alongside innovative publishers like Libraryman (Sweden), Zoopark Publishing (Germany-France), and The Palm Tree Workshop (Greece), further enrich the conversation. Notable independent publishers like Self Publishers United (Netherlands), Familia Editions (Brazil), KWY Ediciones (Peru), and AKA Tawla (Southwest Asia and North Africa) also contribute to the collaborative spirit of the festival, mobilising new connections and sparking insightful inquiries into photography as a poignant creative impulse through their comprehensive and diverse bodies of work. Additional participants include Gnomic Books and Twin Palms Publishers (USA), Kaido Books (Japan), and True Photo Journal (United Kingdom), bringing together a varied and exciting group of contributors, ensuring a diverse and inspiring lineup.
