Art, environment, and gender will be the main themes of this edition. PHotoESPAÑA will bring together 96 exhibitions showcasing the works of 303 photographers and visual artists who explore these three key issues in contemporary society.

Overview

Environmental issues will be the main theme in individual exhibitions. Several exhibitions will explore the close relationship between photography and art, from Pablo Picasso to the three main representatives of performance: Marina Abramović, Fina Miralles, and ORLAN. PHotoESPAÑA will also highlight the work of three women photographers who challenged gender roles in the nineteenth century and advocated for the visibility of women: Alice Austen, Marie Høeg, and Bolette Berg. Spanish photography by women will also be featured in two solo exhibitions and a group show.

Apart from Madrid, Alcalá de Henares, Santander, Valladolid, and Zaragoza will be PHotoESPAÑA cities. Alcobendas, Almería, Barcelona, and Cuenca will also host the Festival's program.

Additionally, the public will have the opportunity to participate in events and workshops aimed at bringing this discipline closer to all those interested in enjoying and exploring the possibilities of photography.
