Funzilla Fest was born in 2015 on the initiative of Fugazine and Monkeyphoto, two small labels from Rome dedicated to the production of photographic fanzines.

Overview

They were immediately joined by the Microprisma association, led by Claudio Drago, a space dedicated to independent and experimental photography, which hosted the first edition. The idea is very simple: create a festival, lasting a weekend, entirely dedicated to photographic fanzines.

Today, the festival is organized by a broader collective of people who gather the energies, skills, and passion of Matias Biglieri (BiZed), Paolo Cardinali (Fugazine), Alessandro Ciccarelli (Monkeyphoto), Chiara Ernandes,  Danilo Palmisano (Monkeyphoto), Marco Soellner (Nostalghia Press), Marzia Troiani.

Driven by a love for printed paper, Funzilla was born with the intention of offering an event that can highlight and present to the public a type of publishing that is hard to find in traditional sales channels. It does so with an inclusive perspective and a spirit of sharing experiences and production methods between the authors and photography enthusiasts. For this reason, it encourages, whenever possible, the direct presence of authors/publishers during the festival days.

Additionally, it seeks to create an opportunity for distribution and sales that is economically compatible with the spirit of ‘zine-making’. For this reason, it does not ask for any contribution for the booth or any percentage of the sales.

The festival allows free participation for anyone who has produced a photographic fanzine (authors and publishers) and is structured with sales booths, editorial presentations, meetings, workshops, exhibitions, and debates.
