With this edition dedicated to the theme of archive and memory, there are now fifteen editions of the Centro de la Imagen's International Photography Festival of Mexico, which the country's photographic community has turned into a national celebration.
Overview
The participation of Spain, the guest country, presents the first solo exhibition in Mexico of Ana Teresa Ortega (National Photography Prize 2020) and Espe Pons and Ira Lombardía. In addition, the Festival Panoràmic shows Catalan projects of intervention to archives, while the PHotoESPAÑA festival shares a chronology of more than 25 years of history. With the intention of making known in Mexico City the photographic production that takes place in other parts of the country, in this edition we will know almost thirty views of Jalisco, the guest state.
In an act of remembrance of the 30th anniversary of the Festival, they present three archive samples: the unpublished audiovisual project by French artist Clémence de Montgolfier on the imaginary surrounding the Zapatista uprising; a recounting of the history of Fotoseptiembre and another of the Photojournalism Biennial (1994-2005). The latter can be seen at the Biblioteca de México.
They hope that the exhibitions of Fotoseptiembre, Mexico International Photography Festival 2024 can give us an idea of the ways of narrating, preserving and forgetting our histories, as well as recognizing the role that photography and the image have played in this by placing them at the service of the practices and uses of the archive.
