Cortona On The Move comes back with its 14th edition of the international photography festival under the theme Body of Evidence.

Overview

The international photography festival Cortona On The Move has been held since 2011 in the Tuscan town of Cortona, in the province of Arezzo. A protagonist of photographic production at the international level, the festival is a point of reference for photographers, curators, authors, critics, as well as the public.

Now approaching its 14th edition, under the direction of Veronica Nicolardi, the artistic direction of Paolo Woods and the photographic curatorship of Kublaiklan the festival makes documentary narrative the center of its interest and focuses on themes that are contemporary and socially relevant. At a time in history when photography provides the most universal means of narrating the world in which we live, the festival aims to make it accessible and understandable to the general public and makes it a driver of cultural exchange and growth. During the festival events and photographic exhibitions will enliven the medieval town of Cortona, enhancing its artistic heritage, including the Fortress of the Girifalco, a fortified structure of Medici origins that overlooks Cortona, as well as its historic palaces and evocative open spaces.

If it is true that photography can serve as proof, Cortona 2024 will unveil a Body of Evidence, where we will explore the body and, along with it, ourselves. From the moment photography was born, the body immediately established itself as one of the focal subjects. The body to be discovered, laid bare, observed. A place for pleasure, but also for pain, at once vulnerable and incredibly powerful. Now, more than ever, the body has become the field for every battle, whether over identity, gender or politics, individual or collective. The body can be commodified or sanctified. It is a place of freedom and a space to be liberated. For medicine, it is an inexhaustible area of study. For technology, which longs for a machine-body, it is a tool to be improved. Most of all, however, the body is engaged in a never-ending battle against its own end, death.

Exhibited artists include Myriam Boulos, Carmen Winant, Rehab Eldalil, Ken Graves and Eva Lipman, Cesura collective (Arianna Arcara, Chiara Fossati, Giacomo Liverani, Marco Zanella, Alex Zoboli), Carl Ander, Niccolò Rastrelli, Nausicaa Giulia Bianchi, Valery Postharov, Klaus Bo, Richard Drew, Henry Hargreaves, Marc Hutten, Sergey Karpukhin, Philip Montgomery, Matthieu Nicol, Pawel Jaszczuk and others.

On the occasion of the 14th edition of the international festival Cortona On The Move, OTM Company is proud to present a comprehensive programme of educational activities dedicated to both professional and aspiring photographers. The offer includes lectures, workshops and meetings, allowing participants to live an immersive and unique experience, learning from the masters and professionals of contemporary photography. Among the activities are Diving Into Documentary with Myriam Boulos, an intensive and intimate workshop on editing long-term and ongoing projects, and Exhibiting Photography with Kublaiklan, providing participants with a method and a complete vision to consciously approach the exhibition form of photographic projects, from layout to budgeting. They will delve into the different phases of exhibition design through field work, visiting together the exhibitions of the festival and studying the type of materials, from photographic papers to unconventional supports.
