Based in Siem Reap, Cambodia, the APFW is Southeast Asia’s oldest established international photography event.
Overview
Their regular annual programme consists of the Angkor Photo Workshops for Asian photographers and the Angkor Photo Festival, which features exhibitions, projection screenings, talks and an array of other activities to engage visitors and the general public.
The 19th edition programme includes several activities such as exhibitions, projections, guided tours with exhibiting artists, workshops and a collaborative cooking event. The collective show Visualising The Climate Crisis is a collection of 12 bodies of work from the Mekong region produced through a mentoring programme by the NOOR Foundation and supported by the Embassy of The Kingdom of the Netherlands. Van-Nhi Nguyen, Southida Manixay, Wan Chantavilasvong, Sirachai Arunrugstichai, Jitttrapon Kaicome, Ponita Keo, Roun Ry are among the showcased photographers. In addition, authors Gerald Flynn and Andy Ball, Christian Babista, Anton Delgado and Miguel Jeronimo, will be featured in solo shows during the festival.
The projections programme includes Enchantment, a showcase of 13 works curated by their invited guest curator for 2024, Ng Hui Hsien, who is a Singaporean visual artist and their workshop alumni. Plus, Open Programme curated by Jessica Lim and Farhana Satu, will feature 41 works by photographers all over the world selected from over 350 submissions to our open call. The programme will be shown during the projection evenings and at the inaugural Screenshare event – an afternoon screening session of mixed media videos and short films. In this occation the following 26 nationalities represented: Argentina, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, Czech, Egypt, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Mexico, Moroccan, Myanmar, Nepal, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Sri Lankan, Thailand, Vietnam.
In addition, Nham Bai – a collaborative cooking event will be held for an afternoon of chopping, cooking, and delving into the local history and knowledge about Cambodian cuisine. Guided by Sreythet Yei (Noo), who has worked in the heat of kitchens for over 15 years, this is a unique community cooking event – bringing people together for conversation, chopping and a delicious meal. Co-hosting is the initiator and sponsor of the event, Kevin WY Lee, a Fiji-born Singaporean private chef, photographer and host of the documentary series In Search of Heat.
