In this exhibition of the Wolf Suschitzky Photography Prize 2023, FOTOHOF shows works by the two winners Moira Lovell (GB) and Olivia Coeln (A) and 4 artists from both countries from the shortlist.
Overview
The theme of the award was Im Augenblick gefangen / Capturing the moment. The Austrian Cultural Forum London established the prize in 2018 following the death of Wolf Suschitzky (1912-2016). Given the dual nature of Suschitzky’s identity, the prize is aimed at photographers living in the UK or Austria. The prize was awarded by a jury of experts from Austria and the UK. The jury consisted of Carla Mitchell (Four Corners Gallery, London), Clare Grafik (The Photographers’ Gallery London), Prof. Gabriele Rothemann (Photography Class University of Applied Arts, Vienna), Katharina Manojlovic & Anja Manfredi (Friedl Kubelka School, Vienna), Kurt Kaindl (FOTOHOF, Salzburg), Nela Eggenberger (EIKON Editor in Chief, Wien), Val Williams (UAL Professor of the History and Culture of Photography) and Peter Suschitzky (representing the Suschitzky Family).
FOTOHOF>ARCHIVE houses the estate of Wolf Suschitzky, which is why the prize is presented as a co-operation between the two institutions Austrian Cultural Forum London and FOTOHOF in Salzburg.
Exhibiting artists are Sona Andreasyan, Andreas Billman, Julius Werner Chromecek, Olivia Coeln, Cal Cole, Philipp Hoelzgen, Moira Lovell, Jan McCullough, Alfie White and Nicole Maria Winkler.
