Tres Viajes by Jörg Brüggemann at Robert Morat Galerie

In Tres Viajes, German photographer Jörg Brüggemann explores Chile through a three-part series and examines the complex relationships that develop between individuals.

Overview

Mi madre tiene novio (2018) is a very personal exploration of grief. Brüggemann sets out in search of his mother, who had passed away ten years earlier. Starting in Chile, he crosses the South American continent to return to the place where he had learned of her death at the time – while travelling in South America.

A year later, Brüggemann produced the series El derecho de vivir en paz (2019). He returned to Chile to find a country in the throes of social unrest. The Chilean people rose violently against their government and the injustices they were suffering. Witnessing this historic uprising, Jörg Brüggemann offers an immersion into the violence on the streets.

The last series, Aguas que no has de beber (2022), is more of a poetic essay that tells the story of a woman and a man separated by miles: she is on the Chilean coast, he is in the mountains. The series illustrates the power of Chilean nature and the invisible bonds created between two human beings.

Jörg Brüggemann (*1979, GER) is a member of Agentur Ostkreuz since 2009 and co-director of Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin. His work is published and exhibited internationally. Tres Viajes is published by Atelier EXB in France and Hartmann Projects in Germany.
