In her work, Slovak photographer Michaela Nagyidaiová analyses the connection between landscape and memory, as well as migration and roots, or the transformation of Central and Eastern Europe from communism to capitalism.

Overview

Nagyidaiová is interested in how ideology and politics affect the personal layers of everyday life or the family and native environment. She is inspired by often unresolved past events, but also by contemporary issues. She usually works on long-term and personal projects that allow her to combine her photographs with text or archival material.

The Transient Ties project analyses the process of severing ties with one’s birthplace while exploring efforts to integrate into a new environment. It foregrounds themes of family ties, migration and roots. The project consists of an extensive photographic collection and an original film.
