The Shape of Our Eyes, Other Things I Wouldn't Know by Davide Sartori at Triennale Milano

Davide Sartori’s research investigates the relationship between presence and absence and the way in which photography can influence the construction of personal and collective memories.

Overview

Satori's work won him the 12th Giovane Fotografia Italiana | Luigi Ghirri Award, an initiative organized by the municipality of Reggio Emilia with Triennale Milano, dedicated to developing talented young photographers in Italy. The exhibition The Shape of Our Eyes, Other Things I Wouldn’t Know is closely tied to the figure of the artist’s father and engages with themes of vulnerability and intergenerational trauma, questioning established social norms. The itinerary unfolds through a series of attempts to establish a connection with his father, with photography functioning as a central tool to explore their relationship. Through collaboratively staged actions documented photographically, portraits, and archival materials, the project articulates both emotional distance and a persistent desire for closeness.

The project is curated by Ilaria Campioli, Daniele De Luigi, and Damiano Gullì, who serves as the curator of contemporary art and public programs at Triennale Milano. It is promoted by the Comune di Reggio Emilia and developed in collaboration with Triennale Milano.

Giovane Fotografia Italiana | Premio Luigi Ghirri is promoted by the Reggio Emilia City Council, on which Triennale Milano has been a partner since 2022, and is dedicated to discovering and promoting up and coming talents in Italian photography. The initiative is organized in partnership with the Luigi Ghirri Foundation and the Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm, and in collaboration with GAI – Association for the Circuit of Young Italian Artists, European Photography; Fotodok, Utrecht; Fotofestiwal Łódz in Poland; and Photoworks, Brighton. With the support of Reire srl, the Young Entrepreneurs Group of Unindustria Reggio Emilia. The GFI#12 | Premio Luigi Ghirri 2025 project was made possible thanks to European funding from the Emilia-Romagna Region.
