Roseta. Una Memòria En Resistència by Neus Solà and Marta G. Cardellach at La Panera

Roseta is Neus Solà and Marta G. Cardellach's visual exploration that reinterprets the life and habits undertaken by the trattorie in the territory of the Pyrenees and the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees.

Overview

(Re)following the traces of those "dones que anaven pel món" to collect and sell medicinal herbs, the authors trace the imperatives of memory that shape the tratmentinaire universe, omplint los buits que deixa la història a través de la fotografia i el caminar.

Thinking about the feminine condition of these women from a gender perspective implies doing so from a specific historical context: they understand the tratmentinaires as something of the transition between two worlds -the traditional and the modern- in the relationship between the home and nature, which is also mute. This fact also conditions their value, since they go from being conceived in their beginnings as a necessary but precarious figure, to being a figure that is forgotten torn away from industrialization and that has recently become a referent of empowerment and transgression in the construction of gender.

Beyond the donation-medicine, the therapeutic archetype is also deployed in the social, economic, political, environmental and sacred spheres, opening new categories that lead us to reflect on the link with the witches, the inversion of family roles, the transmission of knowledge, the stigmatization or the romanticization of this practice.

Roseta illustrates - between reality and fiction - the complexity of this ecosystem through the creation of a character that tells the story of all these women, understanding the body as a carrier of knowledge and walking as a way to make memory. Opening this window makes us think about our origins, the feminine condition, the relationship we have with the environment and the one we want to build.

The exhibition, in audiovisual format, shows the path traced by the authors in the framework of the Beca d'Art i Natura 2023 residency and vindicates the legacy of the artist from a contemporary and emancipatory point of view.
