Spanning photography, publications, installation, video, and sound, the exhibition reflects on identity, memory, exile, gender inequality, and the fragile boundary between fact and fiction.
Overview
The exhibition brings together the four shortlisted artists for the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize 2026, each approaching contemporary photography through a distinct visual language.
Rene Matić, recipient of the 2026 Prize, presents As Opposed To The Truth, a layered installation of photographs, film, sound, and found objects that reflects on identity, family, class, subculture, and belonging through intimate, diaristic moments.
With Too Much Time / Trop de Peines, Jane Evelyn Atwood revisits her decade-long documentation of women in prisons across nine countries, exposing systemic inequalities while highlighting the dignity and resilience of those living behind bars.
In Encyclopaedia, Weronika Gęsicka transforms fabricated encyclopaedia entries into manipulated photographs and AI-generated images, questioning how easily knowledge, truth, and visual evidence can be constructed and distorted.
Combining photography, poetry, drawing, text, and video, Amak Mahmoodian's One Hundred and Twenty Minutesreflects on exile, memory, and dreams through long-term collaborations with people displaced from their homelands.
Curated by The Photographers' Gallery, London, the exhibition presents four powerful artistic practices that examine how photography can document lived experience while challenging our understanding of history, identity, and truth.
