Altra Versione Dello Stesso Paesaggio by Arianna Arcara at Jest

Another version of the same landscape, a deep and personal vision in the face of an ever-changing environment, is what Arianna Arcara proposes to us of the Val Susa.

Overview

A vision that diverges from the more common imagery of this territory, also consolidated by the world of information, linked and bound in the binomial between mountain tourist destination and movements of activism and dissent. The landscapes and portraits of children, adolescents, and young adults depict a scenario common to other mountainous contexts, where the search for balance between excessive human activity and the protection of the natural environment gives rise to complexities and contradictions.

Through the discovery and dialogue with the Val Susa community during a period of artistic residency at the Pinacoteca G. A. Levis in Chiomonte, Arcara has outlined a social and landscape cross-section of the contemporary territory, also developing in this context her investigation into the meaning and the changing and sometimes fragile form of "boundaries", natural, urban, and cultural, often advancing relational processes that become part of the work itself.

The exhibition is accompanied by the publication Altra Versione Dello Stesso Paesaggio published by Cesura Publish.

The project inaugurated, in 2021, the series of artist residencies promoted by the Pinacoteca G.A. Levis in Chiomonte, with the aim of hosting contemporary photographers and artists, involving them in the reinterpretation of the works of the landscape artist Giuseppe Augusto Levis – active during the first twenty years of the twentieth century – and fostering a permanent dialogue with the Val di Susa, in order to increase the civic collections with a nucleus of contemporary works. The project, curated by ARTECO (Beatrice Zanelli) and JEST (Francesca Cirilli), was developed and produced by Pinacoteca G.A. Levis, as the winning project of the Photography Strategy 2020 promoted by the General Directorate of Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture.
