The Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant 2025

The recipient of the IP Grant will receive £10,000 to support their chosen project, along with a year-long loan of Canon equipment to help complete their work, mentorship by industry experts and a feature.

Overview

The Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant is an international photographic competition for young photographers who are 24 years of age or under, or anyone who is studying in a full-time photographic course.

The recipient of the IP Grant will receive £10,000 to support their chosen project, along with a year-long loan of Canon equipment to help complete their work. They will benefit from a personal mentorship with an industry expert, as well as an assignment from Giles Duley, the renowned photojournalist and Founder and CEO of the Legacy of War Foundation. The recipient’s project will also be featured in The Guardian through their media partnership, and they will be included in the Hamburg Portfolio Review. Additionally, the recipient will receive conflict training and body armour. Each year, a selection of long-listed individuals will also have their work highlighted by a panel of industry judges.

Pratical Info

To apply, candidates must submit a portfolio of 12 images (either a photo essay or individual photos), a project description, and a clear proposal outlining the project they would undertake if awarded the grant. Additionally, applicants must provide their personal details and, if applicable, proof of student status.

The Judges will be looking for a photographer and project that addresses an important issue and/or impact related to the human condition: social change,  humanitarian concern, armed conflict, or other topics of interpersonal, psychological, cultural, social, environmental, scientific, medical and/or political significance, ideally expressing an underlying acknowledgement of our common humanity. Long-listed applicants will also receive recognition from the panel of industry judges, offering additional exposure for their work. 

About Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant

The Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant supports young and emerging photographers as they embark on their career in the world of photojournalism. They offer financial support, mentorship and ongoing assistance for the promotion of their work. Importantly, the recipient becomes part of a network of past recipients and an extended family of people who care deeply about the grant and believe in the importance of photojournalism. The grant started over three decades ago in honour of photojournalist Ian Parry who died while on assignment for The Sunday Times during the Romanian revolution in 1989 at the age of 24. Each year they hold a free and globally reaching open call and award The Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant which strives to spotlight new talent in photojournalism.
