Sonntag Grant For Photography

The Sonntag Grant for Photography is a new annual photography grant aimed at supporting FLINTA photographers (female, lesbian, inter, non-binary, trans, agender). Each year, one photographer will be awarded €3,000 to develop a project.

Overview

The Sonntag Grant for Photography is hosting its first open call, offering €3,000 to support a selected project by a FLINTA artist (female, lesbian, inter, non-binary, trans, agender).

For this inaugural edition, the theme is open, and applications are welcome from photographers worldwide. Projects may be documentary, staged, experimental, or anywhere in between; both new and ongoing work are eligible.

Applications open Sep 1st and must go through our website: sonntag-grant.org

Practical Info

Photographers are invited to submit one or a maximum of two projects. We accept all forms of photographic work, be it documentary, staged, experimental, or somewhere in between and we’re happy to support new or ongoing work. Complementary work in other media – like text, film, audio, or music – is welcome, as long as photography remains central to the project.

To submit we ask for an artist biography, 10 sample images of previous work and a text describing the project you want to work on using this grant.

Once the grant recipient is selected, the first €2,000 will be awarded upfront, the remaining €1,000 once all deliverables are submitted within 6 months.

Submissions will be reviewed in a two-step process: an initial long-list review by a small internal team, followed by a final jury decision. Decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

About Sonntag Grant

The Sonntag Grant began on Sonntagstraße, Berlin, during a conversation about what it means to support artists today. The name Sonntag (Sunday) stuck – not just for the street, but for what Sunday represents: time outside of work, time to focus, reflect, or catch up. For many artists juggling other jobs, it’s the only day they can really work on their practice, or take part in something social, political, or creative.

This grant is our way of making a bit more space for that. It’s built to support underrepresented voices in photography, especially FLINTA artists, whose access to resources and recognition is too often limited.

We are a not-for-profit, grassroots initiative operating out of Berlin, Germany.
