Fotofestival Lenzburg 2023 - Synthesis

5 solo exhibitions, a Jury Award of CHF 1,1500, one artistic residency, and a development program are offered by the Swiss festival's Open Call.

Overview

Renowned photographers and emerging talents from all over the world are invited to share their vision by submitting a project or single images related to our festival theme "SYNTHESIS". The competition is open to all types of photography and aimed at photographers from far and wide. An esteemed international jury of curators will choose the projects that demonstrate a deep understanding of the thematic "SYNTHESIS" and showcase a unique artistic style.

Practical Info

5 selected projects will be exhibited during the 6th edition of the festival, and one project will be awarded the Jury Award, providing support for further development of the artist's photographic research with a prize sum of CHF 1,500 .

Additionally, one artist will also have the opportunity to further develop, implement and/or complete his/her contribution during a two-week stay in August 2023 in the artistic residency Lenzburg. The artistic residency includes free accommodation for the artist and optionally for an adult companion and a maximum of two children in the Müllerhaus residence for two weeks in August 2023, travel expenses (up to CHF 200) and a small stipend (CHF 500).

Thanks to the support of the BAT Foundation, with this edition the Festival launches the new program “Bold and Talented”, which in a second phase will offer the selected artists the opportunity to realize the submitted project in the form of an exhibition, together with the Festival team and young talented curators. This program will begin at the end of August 2023, with a start-up weekend, for all artists and curators, to discover the festival and its locations. It will be an occasion for reflecting on the thematic through the participation of guest experts and brainstorming for the upcoming edition. All five exhibitions will be shown during the next edition of the Fotofestival Lenzburg, starting at the end of May 2024.

The Fotofestival Lenzburg is an up-and-coming festival of photography that takes place annually in the history-rich town of Lenzburg in the heart of Switzerland. For one month every year, it brings together participating experts and an interested public. With curated group and solo exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, portfolio discussions, lectures and accompanying events, the festival presents various photographic positions to be explored. It also offers numerous opportunities to meet and exchange with a community of enthusiasts in an open yet intimate setting.
