Exposure Photo Festival 2026 Open Call

The Exposure Photography Festival cultivates participation and dialogue across photographic communities, bringing together photographers, art professionals, and audiences to explore the medium’s evolving past, present, and future.

Overview

The International Open Call exhibition will open on 5 February and run through 5 March 2026 at Contemporary Calgary, in Calgary, Canada. The gallery provides the city and its visitors with a significant visual arts destination dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Since 2020, Contemporary Calgary has hosted Exposure’s open call exhibitions, as well as a solo exhibition featuring the previous festival’s Emerging Photographer of the Year.

Practical Info

Artists need to submit at least three images from a strong, connected series and write a short statement about their project. Images can be shot in any format, using any camera, and may include collage or experimental approaches. All creative practices that explore, expand, or challenge photography are welcome. Fees may be waived for artists facing economic barriers.

Selected artists will participate in a group exhibition at Contemporary Calgary, receive an artist fee of $188, and work with their team and local print partner to prepare their work for exhibition. Additionally, selected images from each exhibiting artist will be included in a public exhibition, displayed on Pattison Outdoor digital billboards located in Calgary.

The jury is composed of Mariama Attah, a photography curator, writer, and lecturer with a particular interest in overlooked visual histories.
