Guest Room is a monthly online exhibition with open submissions curated in real-time by personalities from the international photography scene.
Overview
The current edition of Guest Room invites artists to explore the theme Poetics of Darkness. Black feminist theorist of visual culture and contemporary art Tina Campt, who is a Professor of Humanities at Princeton University, has decided to join forces with photo-based artist Keisha Scarville in this call for projects dealing with images that activate shadow and darkness not as a negative void, but as dynamic and expressive space. They encourage the submission of images that explore multiple implications of shadow as a poetics, as action (verb, adverb, agent), as active rather than passive, and as charged rather than inert. They welcome imaginative photographs that bend our vision toward a capacious embrace of darkness rather than light.
Practical Info
Applicants can submit 1-5 photographs into one category. Photographs that were chosen in previous Der Greif opportunities are not suitable for re-submission. In relation to its 15th anniversary, Der Greif is implementing a Guest Room Scholarship, sponsored by MPB: an artist stipend of € 1,000 to one of the selected submitters of each upcoming Guest Room.
