Overview

Over the course of twenty years of continuous photographic presence in Montpellier and across Europe, the Boutographies have become the photographic highlight in the city. The event is also a time for initiatives, meetings and partnerships for all photographers with projects, with special emphasis on those who have already been selected for the Boutographies. The official programme is complemented by exhibitions curated by the Parallèle section, and by off-site events hosted by a number of cultural venues involved in photography and contemporary art in and around Montpellier. Walking and cycling tours add to the pleasure of visiting exhibitions in an area that changes every year.

Practical Info

All amateur or professional photographers from Europe or resident in Europe are eligible to take part in Boutographies, regardless of age or nationality. A pre-selection by their Artistic Director will choose the entries that will then be presented to a final jury. Applicants can enter the Boutographies competition by registering online via their website only and must upload their images, a CV and a presentation text.

Several prizes will be awarded. The Jury Prize consists of €1,000 cash prize, plus the purchase to the value of €2,500, of one or more prints by the Town of Montpellier for its permanent collection. This prize rewards a young European photographer whose development is deemed particularly worthy of encouragement. It is not intended simply to honour a particular body of work, but to send a signal of support to a photographer who the jury believes has the potential to go much further. This prize is awarded during the first weekend of the festival.

The Public Prize, awarded by their partner Photon, with a cheque for €500 towards the production of an exhibition and supported by the magazine La Gazette de Montpellier, rewards a photographer chosen by the vote of the general public. This prize is awarded at the end of the festival.

In addition, the Photon Prize includes the production of an exhibition for three months at Toulouse's Photon laboratory. It awards a photographer participating in the Jury's projection. The Reponses photo Prize consists of a portfolio published in Réponses Photo magazine. Chosen by the editor of the magazine, this prize is awarded during the first weekend of meetings. The Les Jours Prize consists of a portfolio published in the web mag. It rewards the work of a photographer from the official selection or the Jury's projection.

Plus, the Eyes Coup de Coeur ewards the work of one of the photographers on the Jury's shortlist with two half-day mentoring sessions to help them develop their professional and artistic approach. The Coup de Cœur Mutuelle des Motards is the purchase, from a photograph of the official selection, of a print for their collection on the theme of Liberty And Support. It rewards the work of a photographer from the official selection or the Jury's projection. The Young public prize is of an honorary nature. It awarded by users of the Pass Culture application.
