Black days of Ukraine

Valery Melnikov

2014 - Ongoing

Ongoing conflict in Ukraine between rebels and the government army led the country to the full-scale hostilities. Summer became the bloodiest time for the strategic city of Luhansk. Local citizens were besieged there for three months with no water or electricity, but with constant shelling over their heads. According to the Federal Migration Service, more than 800 thousand Ukrainian citizens had been displaced. The fate of others is to live every single day like it is the last one. Despite several ceasefires and suggestions for resolving the conflict, no side is ready to lay down arms.
