Woman - Your Duty is Beauty

With a playful approach I explore the self-awareness shared by women of all ages regarding their image and body through the medium of photography.

The title ”Women - Your Duty is Beauty”, originates from a cosmetics handbook owned by my grandmother, written for Danish women of the 1950’s. The book, written by a man, shares knowledge on how and when to apply your makeup – and most importantly: How to please the male gaze.

The photographs selected for this submission is a trans-generational dialogue showcasing the absurdities of staging yourself in the gaze of others. Both online and in your everyday life. The exhibition space, in this case, would become the invisible ”stage” from where we gaze at the women posing for us in their frames.

The series is a rigorous yet ironic analysis of the beauty standards and norms imposed on women, the harsh self-judgment they endure, and the care they extend to others.

Connected through domestic spaces, carefully shaped light and vibrant color, the scenes feel both theatrical and intentionally staged unfolding the artificiality of beauty trends and the vanities that follow.
