In southern Piedmont, at the foot of the Marguareis, alpine botanical stations recreate 56 habitats with 500+ rare species. Through photos and Occitan poems, the project celebrates the enduring bond between people, nature, and memory.
In a remote corner of southern Piedmont, at the foot of the Marguareis massif, a few little-known alpine botanical stations play a vital role in the preservation of mountain habitats and rare species.
These natural reserves are vital guardians of mountain ecosystems and the fragile species they protect. Through 56 flower beds containing more than 6,000 plants, organized by habitat, the natural conditions of over 500 wild plant species are recreated as faithfully as possible.
Weaving photographs with poems written in Occitan, an ancient language that still spoken in these valleys, the work seeks to capture the deep and ancient bond between people and the mountains they call home.
In an era of rapid environmental and cultural change, the project is an act of listening and attention: a space where nature and humanity speak to one another, echoing a living heritage that resists erasure.
