Some legends are born in the sea – that of the witch’s hand, for example, who sometimes rises from the depths to land in a fisherman’s net: a brown coral gorged with water, whose branches are like fingers swollen with warts.
Other legends are born on earth. Cécile’s hands bring boats eaten away by time back to life. Her hands are not swollen with warts but bear varnished fingernails. Through an alchemical process, she transmutes wood into a boat, and her doubts into a fierce desire to exist in a world of men.
Witch’s hands, found by chance on the shoreline. Between them a thread was woven, a new legend was written.
