This project is a volume of images that aim to represent the idea of the tripartite mind. Theorised by Sigmund Freud, the tripartite mind holds that the mind is divided into three core areas, the Id, Ego and Superego.
The tripartite mind is divided into the Id, Ego and Superego. Sigmund Freud and many other scholars and philosophers alike believe that these parts of the mind control our behaviour and our emotions. The Id represents the incessant, demanding urge for pleasure in the moment, known as the pleasure principle. This part of the mind is powerful and, if left unregulated, can contribute to behaviours that seek instant gratification. Secondly, the Ego keeps the Id in check; it moderates the Id's behaviour according to the societal norms we find ourselves in. Finally, the Superego is our moral consciousness, what we believe is right or wrong, and how we should or should not act. These images represent the human struggle between these facets of the mind, culminating in an acceptance of the human experience.
