A glimpse into the fascinating way of life of the team caring for and training the horses at The Devil's Horsemen, the leading supplier of horses to the film industry.
At the heart of the relationship between horses and humans is a large paradox. At once a tool in conquests and war because of their tremendous power and capacity for speed, they remain a prey animal. I explore the duality of these flighty yet mighty animals and their relationships with humans.
Shortly after moving to the UK to complete a masters, the country went into a strict nationwide lockdown which I spent at the Devil's Horsemen, a leading supplier of horses and stunt teams in the film industry. I used my film cameras to get closer to the workers who were also locked down at the farm, documenting the essential work they performed as they cared for the horses and continued training.
Photography helped me cope with the uncertainty and isolation of this period as I explored the dynamics of a group of people from very different walks of life that are brought together by their passion for horses and their determination to make a living for themselves in which horses play a central role.
Far from the glamour of the film industry and Hollywood, this project draws on the stillness from intimate moments of connection between horses and people which can provide solace and hope in these lonely and uncertain times.
