In the quest for a sustainable future, Synaptic Dialogues explores the synergies between human and non-human agents, revealing the transformative power of collaboration. By connecting humans, technology, and the environment, this project highlights the potential of these relationships to foster a collective sense of belonging, inclusivity, and shared purpose—essential elements in addressing global challenges.

At the heart of Synaptic Dialogues is an investigation into the delicate balance between technological progress and ecological preservation. The project juxtaposes AI server farms with the natural world, prompting a reevaluation of our impact on the planet and urging more sustainable practices. This blend of technology and nature emphasises the importance of harmonious coexistence.

The artwork itself is a dynamic fusion of organic and technological elements. Two datasets—one of images from a datacenter and another from the rainforest—are fed into an AI to generate image models. Sensors attached to plants within the installation capture real-time signals, which are then used to guide the AI in creating images that meld the two datasets. The resulting visuals are influenced by the current state of the plants and the presence of the audience in the exhibition space, allowing viewers to experience a living dialogue between technology and nature while relaxing in a hammock.

Synaptic Dialogues also delves into the evolving nature of communities, suggesting that the key to solving complex issues lies in embracing collaboration between human and non-human agents. The project examines the role of power—both technological and political—in shaping our collective experiences, challenging us to reconsider our relationship with nature.

By spotlighting emerging interconnected communities, the project encourages discussions on the influence of technology, ecology, and inclusivity in contemporary society.
