“stitching a fallen leaf” represents a hopeful act of healing: piecing together a fragile past and exploring a mother–daughter bond, repairing old wounds with compassion and fostering new ways to express love and understanding as we grow.

In a gentle effort to restore what once seemed beyond repair, stitching a fallen leaf represents a hopeful act of healing: piecing together the fragile, seemingly irreparable past, and reflecting on family trauma.

Rooted in the complexities of my personal familial bonds, my mom joined me in this vulnerable process; together, we explored the difficult moments we each had been carrying, understanding how our similarities can unite us. In this collaborative effort, we’re learning to bridge the gap between us, to repair old wounds with compassion, and to find new ways to express love and understanding as we grow.

stitching a fallen leaf combines intimate portraits of my mom and I in my current home in New York with observations of nature and the environment. For me, these elements are intertwined, serving as uplifters of emotional marks and a way to analyze feelings through other forms of life. Through this project, I invite viewers to witness the tenderness and transformation that can arise when we meet fragility with care.
