Soft Foundations

Soft Foundations is a collection of reinvented memories from a childhood home underconstruction.

This is the story of a home bought in Jersey city, NJ, 3 miles away from Manhattan. The home in question is a 3-story family house bought in 2006 by my father.

For years and until its ultimate destruction in 2017, the space was in constant renovation, going through other trial and tribulations surrounding a family life. It never fully achieved its final state and ambitions my father had of the American dream.

Through Soft Foundations I recover the feelings of hope and optimism when we bought the house, mixed in with the chaos and playfulness of a child found in the middle of an unsure environment with so much potential.

Archives related to the purchase of the house — documents, plans, administrative traces— are woven into the images. They ground the narrative in a more tangible reality, while also serving as a way to document a transitional moment between a child and a home.

This is an hommage for dreams, family and finding peace in chaos. All together they form a portrait of a home built with uncertainty but a lot of imagination.
