SIGNAL VOID

SIGNAL VOID, a place where technological reception is absent or connection is lost.

These photos were taken on a rural Texas road close to the border where my phone loses signal and shifts to SOS. They’re lit by headlights or taillights and reveal only what’s immediate. I live in a small West Texas town, but across America, perhaps across the world, there is a certain anxiety which can be felt. Information we receive arrives in small bursts, while the unknown feels vast. The wider world, like the surroundings in my photos, feels uncertain and obscure. The darkness has a heavy, palpable weight.

How far can we really see? What dangers do we imagine? What’s there outside our vision?
