Restless Voices

Through Polaroids, this series honours the women of Lucca—between myth and history, discrimination and resilience. Light reveals and heals, turning memory into rebellion, where forgotten voices rise as vivid protagonists of a new, luminous narrative.

Through the centuries, women have embodied a delicate balance of strength and vulnerability, love and struggle, leaving an indelible mark on a land steeped in stories, myths, and legends. History has often forgotten them, relegating them to secondary roles or transforming them into legendary figures. Yet these women, real or mythical, continue to shine with an intense light, a glow that traverses time and illuminates our present.

This series of triptychs celebrates the resilience of the women of Lucca, who have faced discrimination, difficult loves, and battles for emancipation. Each image bursts with color, a visual language that breaks tradition to shout the truth, making every shot an act of rebellion and celebration.

Polaroid photography, with its saturated tones and uniqueness, is not just a photographic medium—it is a metaphor for memory. Each shot captures a moment, a story, crystallizing it into a tangible fragment, like a memory that refuses to fade. These images tell stories of discrimination and injustice, but also of emancipation and resilience. Like a hushed song that turns into a cry, the women in these stories challenge time and convention, reminding us that love—when it is free and not oppressive—is the true revolutionary force.

Light is the common thread of this series: a light that reveals, wounds, and heals. It not only illuminates faces and bodies but also penetrates the soul, transforming each image into an act of revelation. Light is a symbol of hope, a force that resists and pushes forward even in the darkest moments. It is the element that connects past and present, transforming the darkness of history into a new vision, where the women of Lucca are no longer forgotten but become protagonists of a narrative that is vivid and powerful.
