Visual exploration of childhood, highlighting maternal and paternal duality through family archives. Where I reveal conflicts and nostalgia, weaving an emotional narrative about love and family complexities.
The photographic work I present is a journey through family archives and constructed memories. I use archive files, clippings, texts and photographs to explore early childhood and the influence of the maternal family on my life. Through photographic reentries, I examine the relationship with the paternal family and the personal document as found material.
These photographs capture the duality of a loving mother, the pillar of my singularity, and a father present in photographs, affectionate and disinterested by what I felt, which led to family conflicts. Through the looks I discover in this material and the nostalgia for dialogues that may have been, I reveal the complexity of family relationships and the memories that shaped my identity.
Each image is a bridge to constructed memories, personal documents and found material that weaves an emotional narrative around the love and complexities of the family. Each image reveals the complexity of family relationships and the power of constructed memories.
You don’t save lives by looking at pictures, but it’s recorded.
