Peeping Dyke

Shortlisted for Dummy Awards 2024, Peeping Dyke sits at the intersection of gaze subversion, anatomical research and pure voyeurism.

I started discreetly photographing men at my local swimming pool, using my phone and the reflection in my goggles like a periscope. Drawn to something I had never truly looked at before: male bodies.

In the past years, I’ve photographed hundreds.

Every piece of arm, leg, hair, chest, crotch: carefully snapped and archived.

I’ve studied the way they hold themselves - chins up - with pride.

If they can bottle entitlement, can I capture it?

And am I, a lesbian, objectifying them?

This series of photographs sits at the intersection of gaze subversion, anatomical research and pure voyeurism.

NB: - Nobody in the photos is identifiable by faces or tattoos.

- The photographs are shot as selfies on an iPhone and cropped to same scale. They've not been photoshopped onto the goggles.

Regarding the dummy: Self-designed and edited. 10cm-high concertina. Shortlisted for Dummy Awards 2024.

Since making the dummy, I have photographed more, so the final edit as well as the design, paper and the cover will change.
