Oh, brother, where art thou?

By following my brother's growing-up in 90's life story and a company of modern youth, I explore how time and place affect a person's destiny. In my focus are changes in generations of youth in Ukraine since Independency till Russian-Ukrainan War

Troyeshchyna -  the place where we were born and spent our childhood.

Separated by a river, the largest sleeping district in Europe. A ghetto for the working class people, who lost their jobs and confidence in the future.

My older brother is the personification of the first generation of young people in independent Ukraine. He entered the world of criminality, heroin chic, MTV, sex and the first wave of techno. Live fast, die young. I saw his life and a generation that is called lost. I heard a lot from my brother, I saw a lot with my own eyes. Due to the big difference in age, not always understanding.

In 2018, My brother died.

This project explores how time and place affect a person's destiny. I use my own memories about my brother, the memories of people who were his friends and grew up with him and reflect them to the same places today. I recreate fragments of his own biography and explore how the youth have changed in last 15 years.
